Leaving on a big trip next week. I thought I might read through a few assignments and see if I could accomplish the tasks while travelling. Hmmm we'll see

I see what you've tried to do here. You've gotten closer to your subject and tried to shoot from an interesting angle... Above. This is great. Unfortunately you've gotten too close to the main area of interest in the frame. The main white candle is out of focus.

If there is anything important about photography it's to ensure that when you capture the most interesting thing in your frame, it's in focus.

In this case the big white candle...

One solution in this case would be to get a little farther back to ensure the lens your using can focus at such a short distance.

I suspect your within the minimum focusing distance of your lens.

That's just technical stuff though. One of the most critical things to great photography is to get close! So your instincts are good.

Always get close, and then closer.

Btw, your image immediately made me think of an aerial photograph of a city. Something like this:
