Great work.

This assignment asked that you show your ability to think about photography in terms of color and color theory. You’ve done a wonderful job of doing that.

Your first image (of the plant) is great because it also incorporates many of the photographic elements discussed in previous lessons. For instance, you have a sense of depth (both with object layers and your shallow depth of field), a sense of balance and shape, clean borders and a subtle element of texture. Overall, this image is very strong.

Your second image also has many of the same attributes, but with one problem area that unfortunately shadows most of the positive attributes to this photograph. The lighting is not complimentary to what I assume your goal was for this photograph. The purple, yellow and green combination has so much potential, but your lighting isn’t sufficient to pull the saturation of those colors out. You’ve used low intensity, soft lighting and it gives these potentially vibrant colors a dull look.

I’ve provided a few photograph that have more efficient lighting below:

Notice how the lighting brings out stronger saturation in the colors of the photograph. You can even just use a flashlight or table lamp. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Great work overall though. I look forward to seeing your next photograph.
