In terms of colour your have done a nice job here. You’ve shot some nice complimentary colours and this image works well from a colour perspective. Color is often one of the forgotten elements in photograph in the sense that it is a second class citizen. People tend to put their subject first and forget about colour.

The key lesson here is to make colour one of the main things you think about when making a photograph. Always think about colour and think about what works, and what doesn’t. Making colour a priority and not an afterthought will dramatically improve your photography.

In terms of the image itself the first thing I noticed was that the image is a a little underexposed.

Also the the centre of the flower is not in proper focus but the petals on the right side of the frame are in focus.

For a nice closeup photograph like this I would recommend shooting at ISO 100 on a tripod with a macro lens and maybe even a flash. (if you want to get serious about it that is) Notice how at ISO 1600 your image is quite grainy/noisy? That’s fine if you don’t plan to make large prints or look at the image on a large display.

Whatever the case just remember COLOUR IS KEY! Take a look at almost any great photo and pay special attention to the use of colour, you’ll notice a pattern, a nice use of colour.

Do you have any questions about anything that is specifically stumping you at the moment?

Thanks for your submission and I’ll see you on the next assignment.
