Welcome. Icon Photography School is a free library of three full courses, 194+ quizzes, a camera simulator, and 150+ glossary terms. No sign-up. No upsell. Just pick the path that fits where you are right now.

Which of these sounds like you?

“I just got a camera and I have no idea what the buttons do.”

Start with the Camera Simulator. Drag the aperture, shutter, and ISO sliders and watch what happens to the photo. No camera needed. It is the fastest way to connect a setting to its effect.

Then read The Exposure Triangle for the plain-English explanation of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO work together. That is the single most useful idea in photography.

Ready to commit to a structured course? Photography Fundamentals is fourteen free lessons that start with why photography matters and progress through camera controls, composition, and light. Work through them in order; a quick quiz at the end of each locks it in.

“I know the basics but my photos still look flat.”

Jump into Intermediate Photography. Fourteen lessons on deliberate exposure, focus systems, lens choice, natural and flash light, color, and editing workflow. The capstone is a real photo project you finish and publish.

Not sure which course you belong in? Take the Fundamentals final exam. If you pass it comfortably, skip ahead.

“I want to get good at a specific kind of photography.”

The Applied Photography Masterclass is twelve genre-focused lessons: portrait, landscape, street, wildlife, macro, night, sports, architecture, creative, and the business side. Pair each lesson with the matching genre hub for deeper reference.

“I just want to look something up.”

Go straight to Browse Topics. Every calculator, cheat sheet, how-to guide, and reference page organized by category. Search the glossary for a single term.

How this site is designed to be used

Learn, then practice, then shoot. Reading about photography only gets you so far. Every lesson ends with exercises you do with your own camera. The quizzes exist to surface the things you half-understood.

Take it in order. Each course builds on the last. If you skip ahead and feel lost, go back. The fundamentals are worth a second pass even if you have been shooting for years.

Come back. Your progress through the lessons is tracked locally in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off.
