Hello. You’re on the right track with this photograph. What you’ve done is you’ve moved in on your subject to help eliminate any distracting background “noise”. Simplification is undoubtedly the cornerstone to any good photograph. This doesn’t mean however, that the photographs are simple. Simplification can come in the form of story simplification, color simplification, object simplification, edge simplification and the simplification and organization of photographic elements. You’ve chosen, like many photographers to use macro photography to simplify. I want you to be aware of this because although that is how most photographers trend when doing this assignment, macro photography only serves as the most obvious example of this technique.

The real beauty comes when you start trying to organize chaos without eliminating the chaos from the frame. You instead must find a way to organize it all through composition and camera placement. Soon this will come second nature to you.

From a technical standpoint your assignment is very well done. However, now what I want you to do is take this concept of simplification and apply it to a bigger scene.

I look forward to seeing your next assignment.
