Great job on this assignment. This photograph is one of your best because you’ve moved away from the close up photographs into a more complex scene. Not only that, but you’ve managed to do a great job with the many different elements of this photographs composition. Most notably, the triangular shapes caused by your positioning help create an interesting sense of place. If you took a profile shot of this train the image would appear flat, but because you’ve taken it off to the side as the road and train come in on a diagonal you’ve introduced the triangular shape, which is one of the most impressive shapes to add to a photograph.

You’ve also used the element of “line” to create a leading line (using the road) that helps bring your audience’s eye into the photograph. Your composition is also well done with your horizon line being 2/3rds of the way up the frame and a very identifiable main object with interesting but not distracting second elements (such as the town and the mountains in the background).

My only criticism is that you’ve amputated the car following the train. I’ve done a quick edit of the photograph to take that car out using the “stamp” tool in Photoshop. Again, just be very careful of those edges, they can make or break a photograph!

Great work
