Re: Re: Assignment Six

Duncan Rawlinson

Very nice photograph.

This is exactly what this assignment called for. We asked you to take a complicated setting and compose it using the compositional techniques you’ve learnt in the previous lectures.

You’ve done a great job with this assignment. You’re main object is placed off to the left which helps the photograph abide by the rule of thirds as well as create an informal balance. On a similar note, your horizon line is located 2/3rds of the way up the frame which also helps ensure your shot abides by the rule of thirds.

Most impressively however, if you ability to limit your color pallet in this shot. Your background has three main colors; blue in the sky, green in the trees and brown in the field. Your foreground is made up predominantly of reds and blacks.

The one thing I would really like to see you start to experiment with is using three layers in your photograph; a foreground, middle ground and background.

Foregrounds help give the viewer a sense that they are standing in the photograph with you. For example, look at these photographs:

In all of these photograph a strong foreground is used in different ways. I would like to see you experiment with this. I think you’ll be happy with the results!

Keep up the great work.
