What you’ve decided to do with this assignment is move in closer to your object and focus more on the textures and colors rather than the overall shape. In fact, you likely wouldn’t be able to tell what the object was in your “beauty” photograph without the visual reference of your first photograph.
Your beast image is not all that bad except it’s a little too formally balanced with the object in the dead center, and the bottom of the main object is amputated (cut off) with the bottom frame of the photograph.
These issues have been corrected in your beauty photograph. What I like most about your beauty photograph however, is the introduction of depth through the use of shadows.
Your first image is a little flat. The lighting situation is not ideal and as a consequence the foreground merges into the background and the entire photograph looks 2 dimensional.
In your second photograph however, you’ve introduced shadows which has helped you communicate the illusion of 3 dimensions. This helps make your image livelier and less flat.
Great first assignment!
