This assignment will have you prove that you understand how to simplify a photograph using color as your primary element. You can choose to use any type of color simplification process but the point is to limit the array of colors which make it into your photograph. You can choose to shoot a color highlight photograph, a monochromatic photograph or a photograph which uses just analogous colors or complimentary colors. The point is that you just don’t point and click at any colors you wish. See colors in your world and know how to separate them to create a visually appealing photograph.
The goal of this assignment was to have you prove to yourself that you can simplify a photo using color as your main visual element.
You’ve done well at choosing somewhat analogous colors! You’ve used a primary color in the blue sky and a tertiary red purple in the flower.
These colors could be a little close on the color wheel to be more visually interesting but sometimes you can’t be that picky when in the field.
The main point is to be thinking about color when shooting. Use color to enhance your images and your photography will go to the next level.
This assignment was to simplify the image using color and you’ve done that well. However, you’ve included what appear to be powerlines in the composition of your image. You’ve simplified using color and complicated the composition with elements that don’t need to be there!
You may be able to crop things like that out but it’s usually best to just reframe until you’ve cropped it out in camera.
I know how hard it is to keep it all mind when you’re shooting but with practice all of these ideas will become second nature to you.
Onward with the assignments!
