Hey there janabanana!

Thanks for submitting your first assignment to the student forum.

Now, the important thing is that you’ve started. Learning photography is a lifelong journey and you’re on your way. So thats really great! In fact I sometimes envy people who are just starting to learn photography because it’s so much fun to figure it all out. 😉

I don’t want to get off on the right foot but I feel as though you may have misunderstood this assignment. The goal of this assignment is to make something that is mundane a bit more interesting through photography. Given that your images are both quite similar I don’t feel as though you’ve really nailed the assignment.

To be fair the image with the shallow depth of field and a less cluttered background is certainly a better image, it’s just not that much more interesting.

Here is a little trick, if you’re shooting something inanimate like this one thing you can always do is involve a person. Add someone’s hand or put a person in the background. People almost always make a photo more interesting!

Feel free to shoot another couple photos and post them here. If not no worries, this course is about having fun and learning photography, not about rules!
