Both of these examples are breathtaking. You’ve gone above what this assignment asked for and delivered something very interesting and well composed.
This assignment asked that you show your technical understanding of your aperture and shutter speed and their relationship to exposure. Not only have your shown both your ability to use a shallow depth of field and freeze movement, but you’ve also composed both images very well.
There are a couple of highlights that I would like to point out with regards to both images. First both have great color control. You’ll learn more about using a color pallet in an upcoming lessons, but for now just notice how in your first image you’ve used strong reds, greens and yellows. These colors are found in both the vegetables and in the surrounding design.
In the second image, you’ve limited your color spectrum to blue and black. This gives the image a much “cooler” feel than your first image. Simplifying color is a great way to help enhance your composition. It’s helps organize and control the tone of your scene.
You’ve also used depth in both photographs helping to create more dramatic and less “flat” images. You have a foreground, middle ground and background in both images. This helps create the illusion on 3 dimensions and it gives the viewer to perspective of “being there”.
You’ve done a great job with both of these photographs. Keep up the good work!
