    Hi Tamara,

You’ve done very well here! I like that you have tried to use the panning technique in photography to illustrate motion.

The photograph of the young boy on his bike certainly shows motion. He’s going fast!!

There are a few minor points for improving the image though. It looks like the sensor or your lens is dirty. You see those little black dots when you view the frame at 100% size. That looks to me like dust on your CCD (your camera’s sensor).

Also, the image itself is not in focus. It’s quite a challenge to focus in these situations and you will more than likely have to manual focus.

Shooting a photograph of this nature in a relatively dark environment like this is a challenge to say the least. More thing you can do is raise your camera’s ISO. This effectively makes your camera’s sensor more sensitive. It can therefore pickup more information and shoot sharper photos. Be aware though that too high of an ISO can lead to noisy/grainy images.

Your next image of the young girl is quite nice as well.

The same applies here but in reverse. Your image was shot at ISO 400 and that has added unnecessary noise to the frame. If you look at the image at 100% and look at the girls face you can see. ISO 100 probably would have been a better choice. Of course if you we’re using your camera’s automatic settings you probably didn’t have a choice!

The main thing here is that you’re learning both the concept of motion and shallow depth of field.

Both of these techniques will become just a few of the tools you can choose from when creating an image.

    Nice work here.
