I liked the depth having this image in gray scale brought.

    Great assignment.

You were asked to take a larger scene (in terms of geographic space) and simplify the image through the use of creative composition. You’ve done a wonderful job of achieving these technical goals.

You’ve chosen to de-saturate your image in order to work with a palette of gray tones instead of colors. This helped you simplify the color composition of the image. Secondly you’ve decided to use a lot of textural and contextual space (the sky and the water) to further simplify the composition.

The image also abides by the rule of thirds due to the placement of both your horizon line and your main object (the house).

Not only that, but you’ve incorporated the use of two predominant layers; a middle grouna and a background. This has helped provide a sense of depth. Since you’ve kept your aperature at infinity this sense of depth through the use of layers was important to give the image the illusion of three dimensions.

Overall this is a very strong photograph. Great work.
