    Basic composition

    Duncan Rawlinson

Great work on this assignment. In my opinion, this is your best work in our student community yet. You’ve done many great things with the composition of this image. For starters, all of the lines and shapes in this image work in unity and don’t overlap or distract from one another. For example, look at the cement wall in the background. It creates a line, but it doesn’t “touch” your primary object (the plant). The general flow of the image is from the bottom right corner up towards the upper left corner. Virtually all of the shapes and lines work towards supporting this position.

On a similar note, your perspective allowed you to use the simple yet highly textured water as your background which further helps isolate your main object.

A secondary, yet equally impressive element to this photograph is the texture in your main object. The plant is incredibly full of texture the lighting really helped pull this feature of the photograph out.

Great work on this photograph. The improvements in your work are very noticeable.
