    Lighting …….

    Duncan Rawlinson

Great assignment. The flower image is one of your best. I know I said that about your last assignment, but this image is defiantly a runner up. I like to see how you’re experimenting with creating shape through the use of lighting. Obviously, by changing the lighting you can change the shape, dimension, the highlighted areas and the exposure of the image. I love how the light is relatively hard on the flower petals, but soft on the leaves of the flower. This creates a very interesting illusion of depth in your image. You also have great focus and isolation as well. The simplicity of the colors and the dark background create an image that is very pleasant to look at.

The second image is in stark contrast to this image. The photograph of the dog uses incredibly hard front lighting which strips the image of all shadows and texture. Notice how this image is completely flat and washed out.

I’m glad you experimented with these two images because they are so different from each other and you can really see the dramatic impact that light has on an image. Thank you for sharing this assignment.
